We’re pleased to share a small project that we worked on between 2015 and 2016 – a compact yet powerful 3600W Workzone Inverter Generator, sold exclusively through Aldi Australia.

Our team developed the rugged design details, and generated concepts including finished art for the product decals. Safe to say, it “generated” a lot of interest!

You can see our complete portfolio here.

Two New Launches for Batavia and Westfalia

This month, we’re seen the market release of not one, but two, mini-saw models from our clients.

Naturally, this has sent us into an state of mini-saw madness! We’ve been running around cutting through anything we can get our hands on; from decorative veneers, to plaster walls and MDF (as long as it’s under 26mm thick). We recommend waiting until January to visit our studio, when we will hopefully have returned to a state of normality in delivering professional product development services.

In all seriousness, we would like to congratulate both Batavia and Westfalia on the release of their respective mini-saw models.

These two projects serve as a great example of developing different aesthetics and themes for different clients at the same time. Whilst a rare occurrence (in this case, they also knew each other!) it does illustrate how designers must be versatile in their creativity and have a thorough understanding of their clients target market.

The Westfalia model is a “precision” saw that required a more conservative aesthetic, and a muted colourway. Batavia’s model demanded a more adventurous, trend-setting aesthetic, with bright colours and metallic accents. The different use of textures and finishes also serves to give each an identity of its own.

See more of the Batavia Mini Saw and Westfalia Mini Plunge Saw in our Portfolio.

You’ll find the Batavia saw available from https://batavia.eu/ and the Westfalia saw available from https://www.westfalia.de/.

Our latest collaboration with Batavia was a great chance to push the boundaries of the traditional heat gun category. We designed the innovative new Maxxheat Weedkiller Heat Gun – an environmentally friendly, safe and affordable alternative for weed control. With a unique rotating handle allowing use in both pistol and stick orientations, and a telescopic extension pole – the product offers a range of possibilities to the user.

Whistle worked with the team to further develop the function and external design aesthetic, taking into account the unique nature of the product. We placed focus on ease of operation, developing ergonomic controls in all orientations, and advancing the Batavia design language.

The result is a first-of-its-kind product that pushes the category and provides competitive advantage for Batavia. Congratulations to Batavia on the wonderful new product addition of the Maxxheat Weedkiller Heat Gun.

See more in our Portfolio.

We’re pleased to introduce our latest work and the newest addition to the BluCave range. Working with the BluCave team at Demain International, we recently designed the Audio Zone Compact Bluetooth Speaker.

Featuring touch-sensitive controls, NFC and Bluetooth for connectivity to the latest devices, the speaker has a removable rugged exoskeleton shell that feels as comfortable in a clean modern home as it does in the workshop.

We worked with Demain and their key stakeholders through numerous design iterations to achieve a solution that was simple and clean yet rugged. The key to ensuring its success was a strong focus on simplicity and easy of use.

Congratulations to the team at Demain and BluCave on another new and exciting addition to their range.

Check it out at your local Mitre 10.

Working together with GRIT Communications, our latest project required development of a unique set of document delivery boxes for a significant tender submission within the logistics industry. The direction from the client required the tender boxes to look like a miniature shipping containers, suitable for carrying multiple folders & documents.

We provided visualisation of the concept followed by production design. Focus was placed on minimising weight, ensuring load capacity high enough to carry all required documents and maintaining the QUBE aesthetic.

The final design was constructed with an aluminium frame and corrugated roof cladding for the walls to achieve the corrugated look of full size shipping containers. Fitted with over-centre latches for security, foam lined, and finished in Dulux™ Lemon Yellow powdercoat.
