Industrial Equipment Design

At Whistle Design Group, we partnered with WORX+ to deliver cutting-edge industrial equipment design for the Grindworx King Series concrete grinders—GK-700 and GK-850. Our goal was to redefine expectations in the concrete grinding industry by creating a robust, high-performance enclosure system that enhances both functionality and aesthetics. The result is a revolutionary design that integrates a split-chassis structure, advanced automation, and data-driven adjustability—pushing the boundaries of what industrial equipment can achieve in demanding environments.

Good Design Award Winner 2025

We’re honoured to have received not one, but two Good Design Awards for the Grindworx King Series—recognised in both the Product Design (Commercial and Industrial) and Engineering Design categories. These accolades highlight the strength of our collaboration with WORX+ and the shared ambition to deliver something truly exceptional.

Innovative Split-Chassis Enclosure

A key innovation in the King Series is its split-chassis industrial enclosure design, which delivers a host of performance and usability benefits. This modular architecture improves serviceability and transportability, allowing the machine to be disassembled and moved more easily. It also enhances control over grinding pressure and balance, improving surface finish quality while reducing operator fatigue. Importantly, the split chassis provides better access to the grinding head, streamlining disc changes and minimizing downtime. This design redefines how industrial enclosures can support both machine performance and user efficiency.

This innovative enclosure approach also allowed Whistle to challenge conventional aesthetics in industrial equipment design. The split chassis provided a unique design canvas to express the machine’s power and precision, resulting in a bold, modern form that stands out in the market. By merging functional engineering with visual impact, the King Series sets a new benchmark for how industrial equipment design can elevate brand identity and user perception.

Australian Design on Show, World of Concrete 2025

The Grindworx King Series made its global debut at the 2025 World of Concrete expo in Las Vegas. The launch showcased the impact of thoughtful industrial equipment design on machine performance, safety, and user experience. Industry professionals were introduced to a new standard in concrete grinding—one defined by innovation, usability, and engineering excellence. The event marked a proud moment for both WORX+ and Whistle Design Group, highlighting the power of collaborative design to reshape an entire industry.

Project Details

WORX+ approached Whistle Design Group with a bold vision: to transform the concrete grinding market through innovative industrial equipment design. The brief called for a machine that balances power with manoeuvrability, integrates intelligent automation, and prioritizes operator ergonomics. Our concept development process involved deep research into user workflows and existing equipment limitations. Through iterative CAD modelling and stakeholder collaboration, we developed a modular enclosure system that supports ease of transport, serviceability, and user interaction—laying the foundation for a truly disruptive product.

With the user at the centre of every decision, Whistle refined the enclosure design to enhance interaction, comfort, and control. From intuitive access points to ergonomic touchpoints, the enclosure was shaped to reduce operator strain and simplify routine tasks. This human-centred approach ensured that the final product not only performed exceptionally but also felt natural and efficient to use in real-world environments.

To bring the enclosure design to life, Whistle Design Group developed comprehensive 3D CAD models and engineering drawings. These assets enabled seamless collaboration with the WORX+ engineering team at their Bayswater headquarters, supporting the fabrication and testing of functional prototypes enabling rapid iteration and refinement of the design. This process ensured that prototype builds could be executed efficiently and accurately, laying the groundwork for rigorous testing and validation in real-world conditions.

At Whistle Design Group, we specialise in designing innovative, user-focused industrial products that fuse functionality with bold aesthetics. Our collaboration with WORX+ on the Grindworx King Series concrete grinders exemplifies this approach—delivering a high-performance solution that redefines usability and efficiency in heavy-duty equipment. By applying our expertise in industrial design to a traditionally rugged category, we helped create a machine that not only performs exceptionally but also elevates the operator experience through thoughtful design and visual impact.
